Hello, bonjour, salve and all that...
My name is Jem, I am 17 years old and I am currently on completion of my final years of A Levels (studying Media Studies, English Language and English Literature - so, I guess you could say I like to create and I like to write).
I first decided to start this blog just give myself a little pass-time, but with having thoroughly enjoyed sharing with you what I write sinceand decided it would make the perfect portfolio for my budding career as a Writer and Narrative Journalist. What's Narrative Journalism? Well, if I am honest, it wasn't long ago that I didn't even know what it was let alone that such a term existed. But, I did know that I have very strong opinions on a broad range of matters, and I've turned them into articles, whether they are based on relevant current affairs or just little random shower thoughts I've had about aspects of society. I also have started sharing blog posts about my own personal experiences, my journeys through certain situations that life has thrown at me or my advice to help others approach matters differently - purely because, my role as an opinion writer is to influence and persuade, and that can only been effectively done if the readership know me well enough to trust my views, and also just because I love reading other peoples' so I thought I would give it a go!
Since sport is a big HELL NO and playing a musical instrument is far beyond my talents, when I'm not writing articles, I'm writing poetry or I'm writing fiction, and during those odd times when I'm not writing ...
I'm a keen gym-goer; healthy living and fitness has become very important to me recently, and keeping my strength up has had major positive effects on my motivation and self-esteem.
I'm a historian, embracing my inner elderly woman as make use of my National Trust and English Heritage membership as much as I can.
I'm a traveler - from the early days since being out of the womb, I have been jetting off on airplanes and enduring long hour car journeys across the border and around the world - visiting as local as Athens and Paris to as far as Oman and Dubai. There's something liberating about getting away and seeing the world, experiencing history and cultures outside of the one we were born into.
But, to say the least, I am just as much your typical teenage girl - your pessimistic-reforming, hormone-raging, stress-head teenage girl, who loves to just simply get drunk with her friends, spends money she doesn't have and spends half her day moaning and in her dressing-gown because me mam won't let me turn the heating up.
