My ability to dream and form ambitions is one of the things I have always found pride in - it has also developed into a fear of mine. Losing ambition. With masses of revision and work to do at this current moment in time, motivation for me at the moment is as inconsistent as the British Summer... So, this leads me into worrying that I'm going to end up with a severe lack of ambition and no social mobility, until things start looking up again and I get an effective kick up the arse making me re-evaluate my purpose on this earth again. Then, there's the fear that I will never attain my ambitions. But, then I remember that ambitions are always changing, and even they are as inconsistent as the British Summer, so if something doesn't work out, I try not to worry because I know that, probably, in a couple months time, I will aspire to something else. Dream big to achieve big - nothing in this world is handed to you on a plate. Although it may seem that way, with those irritating people in our society that do near to nothing yet seem to get near to everything at such ease, there will be a point where this capitalist society strikes you and you are forced to stand on your own two feet. Society consists of one grand competition, and I believe our individual ambitions give us that edge, our own advantage, that pushes us to succeed. With ambition comes optimism and that may be because it provides us with a slight diversion to reality. Too many materials in our media nowadays push on to us this idea that escaping from reality is dangerous (and I couldn't disagree more). These books and films that perpetuate such real-life, and safe to say morbid, situations give the impression that life will always pan out the same - there will be heartache, there will be death, there will be sadness and with all of that, there will be brief moments of happiness to distract us from it all before the cycle reboots. Such books like the Jacqueline Wilson books - yes, I read them, but they focused mainly on serious situations such as drugs, bullying and death, and although I believe it's important that children are aware of such things, it leads to an overall exaggerated belief that everyone's life is always at a disadvantage and I feel children need that diversion into imagination. Is this provoking a wide scale lack of ambition among our society to date? Yes. People are becoming less adventurous, less inclined to push themselves and are settling for the 'norm', too scared to leave their hometowns and too pessimistic to see potential in something could possibly turn out great. Without ambition, you are a bird without wings - something without motivation, leading to something without potential. My current ambitions - I have many. And like I said, some could change within the next few weeks - however, these have stuck by me since I can remember.
Don't be a bird without wings - have ambition.
